Save ohia, wili wili with genetic engineering
Save ohia, wili wili with genetic engineering
The scientist of our state should be looking into using a bacterium that can be inserted into the genes for disease resistance (facilitated adaptation) for the ohia and the wili wili trees in hopes of curtailing the spread of whatever blight or fungus is killing these trees, thereby rescuing them from oblivion.
Scientists are already studying “genetic engineering” as a way to boost the failing population of the Hawaiian crow.

Shortfall caused by evacuation?
Some shortfalls of the state Department of Education budget could stem from the fact that it spent between $5 million and $12 million to prematurely evacuate Keonepoko and Pahoa school children, gut Keonepoko school which is 3 miles away from the lava front, and then purchasing new iPads for Keonepoko teachers, maybe since their year’s worth of lesson plans got misplaced and never returned?
